126-Year-Old Colorado Moving Company Johnson Storage & Moving Named 2026 ColoradoBiz Top Company in Consumer Business

Centennial, CO / Storyteller / Oct 29, 2026 /

Johnson Storage & Moving, a Colorado moving and storage company for 126 years and a founding United Van Lines agent, has been named the 2026 ColoradoBiz Top Company in the Consumer Business category. ColoradoBiz honored the company on Sept. 25 at its annual Top Company Awards luncheon in Denver.

ColoradoBiz has run the Top Company Awards since 1988. The program recognizes Colorado companies of every size, from small independents to multi-billion-dollar corporations, and judges them on financial performance, outstanding achievement, and community involvement. In the Consumer Business category, Johnson Storage & Moving competed against companies across the state that serve the public directly, not only against other movers.

The 2026 award puts Johnson back on top of a category it also won in 2018, after the company was named a Consumer Business finalist in 2025.

“Moving is one of the biggest trust decisions a family makes. People are handing us everything they own,” said Don Hindman, President and CEO of Johnson Storage & Moving. “For 126 years, we’ve earned that trust one move at a time. This award belongs to our crews, our relocation consultants, our warehouse teams, and the generations of Colorado families who have trusted us with their homes.”

From a South Broadway wagon shop to a statewide institution

Johnson Storage & Moving traces its roots to 1900, when William Johnson turned his South Broadway blacksmith and wagon-building shop in Denver into a moving business. Over twelve decades, the company has grown from that single shop into one of the oldest privately held companies in the Denver area. It now provides residential and commercial moving, long-distance and international relocation, and storage, along with warehousing and logistics through its sister companies.

The ColoradoBiz honor caps a strong year of recognition. In 2026, Johnson Storage & Moving also received the United Van Lines Customer Choice Award and the United Van Lines Sales Achievement Award, and was named to SuperMoves’ Fortune 30 of Moving & Storage Companies in the United States.

Why it matters to Colorado families

Consumers planning a move often worry about hidden fees, missed delivery windows, and damaged belongings. Johnson’s approach pairs local Colorado leadership with the national reach of the United Van Lines network. That lets the company handle a move across Denver, across the country, or overseas with one standard of care.

“An award like this isn’t earned in a single year,” Hindman said. “It’s the result of showing up when we said we would, for more than a century. Our job is to make sure the next family we move feels the same confidence our customers have felt since 1900.”
