JW MARRIOTT TUCSON STARR PASS RESORT & SPA REVEALS REIMAGINED GUEST ROOMS AND SUITES IN THE HEART OF THE REAL ARIZONA
PR Newswire
TUCSON, Ariz., Sept. 9, 2026
Newly transformed accommodations complete the next chapter of the resort’s property-wide evolution
TUCSON, Ariz. , Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa has unveiled reimagined guest rooms and suites, completing a transformative renovation that deepens the resort’s connection to the spirit, setting, and natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Thoughtfully designed to bring today’s discerning traveler closer to the surrounding landscape, the refreshed accommodations create an elevated feeling of home at the iconic mountainside escape, offering a stay experience that feels more residential and authentic to Southern Arizona. Newly designed spaces encourage guests to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the restorative rhythms of the Sonoran Desert.
The renovation includes 524 reimagined guestrooms and 51 updated suites – an increase of 16 suites to better accommodate the resort’s luxury clientele. Each are designed to frame the resort’s sweeping views and create a stronger sense of place.
The new design blends the resort’s existing Southwest architecture with the organic, natural character of the Sonoran Desert. Colors like earthy ochre, sage, rosemary, thyme, and cactus green echo the textures and tones of nearby Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park. Handcrafted details, patinated metals, natural hardwoods, sturdy canvas, and mountain-inspired textiles add a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship throughout. Layered textures, carved elements, and custom artwork inspired by native pottery create a refined, understated atmosphere that still feels luxurious and rooted in Southern Arizona. Every material and design choice was made with durability and timelessness in mind, creating a lasting sense of place that reflects the beauty of the desert landscape.
Throughout the rooms and suites, the transformation is designed to be felt as much as seen. New beds are positioned closer to the view, allowing guests to wake up immersed in their natural surroundings. Expanded seating nooks with trundle sofas create flexible spaces for relaxing, working, dining, or accommodating additional guests. Bathrooms have been fully reimagined with spa-inspired walk-in showers, dramatic stone finishes, and spacious double vanities that bring comfort, functionality, and a sense of renewal to the guest experience.
“The guest room transformation was designed to honor the rugged beauty and layered history of Starr Pass while creating accommodations that feel welcoming, refined, and deeply connected to the surrounding desert,” said Christy Thompson, design lead and Principal of Ellis Adams Group. “By blending Southwest architecture with the warmth and simplicity of nature-inspired living, we created spaces that celebrate craftsmanship, comfort, and a genuine sense of place.”
Families are offered an entirely new room category, the Family Bunk Bed Suites. Designed for travelers seeking more flexible accommodations, these suites pair a king bed with twin bunk beds, creating a comfortable layout for families traveling together. Guests can further enhance their stay with the new JW Camper Experience, which brings a playful in-room adventure to life with a child-sized play camper, campfire, sleeping bag, milk and chocolate chip cookies, an activity book, crayons, and optional keepsakes such as a children’s book and plush toy cactus.
Beyond the Family Bunk Bed Suites, 13 new Junior Suites are making their debut, and the resort’s popular Executive Suites have increased from 15 to 20 with spacious separate living areas and private balconies. Across suite categories, there are residential-inspired design details, enhanced outdoor living spaces, and layouts for both relaxation and productivity.
Among the resort’s most exceptional accommodations are the four newly introduced Sonoran Starr Suites, redefining desert luxury with 1,275 square feet of thoughtfully designed living space and an expansive 868-square-foot private terrace overlooking the natural beauty of Starr Pass. The residential-style suites each feature a private king bedroom, two spa-inspired bathrooms, a spacious living area, wet bar, dining space, and optional connecting guest room, making it ideal for families and those traveling together. Enhancing the experience, each suite includes a premium telescope, allowing guests to enjoy Tucson’s internationally celebrated dark skies and create unforgettable moments beneath the stars from their own private desert sanctuary.
The completion of the room and suite renovation builds on a broader property-wide evolution at JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa. Recent enhancements include the comprehensive renovation of more than 115,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a rebirth of the 27-hole PGA-caliber golf course and clubhouse, and continued investment in the resort’s guest-facing spaces including the pool complex with Southern Arizona’s largest lazy river + waterslide, as well as a separate adults-only pool area. Future enhancements include updates to the resort’s market and retail areas this fall, further extending the refreshed experience across the property.
Long celebrated as one of the American West’s most compelling desert destinations, JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass connects guests to Tucson’s energy, culture, and beauty. The resort offers experiences that reflect the real Arizona, from astronomer-led stargazing and guided hiking to Native American morning prayer rituals, a nightly tequila toast rooted in regional tradition, and access to Tucson’s vibrant Mercado District.
“Our goal is for guests to arrive in awe and depart inspired,” said General Manager Dean Callahan. “Our award wining associates are devoted to helping our guests slow down, connect, and create lasting memories while developing a more personal connection to Tucson and the surrounding landscape. With these beautifully and thoughtfully completed updates, we’re better able to deliver that promise now… and for the next generation of visitors.”
