BetterHelp, the world’s largest online therapy platform, today launched We Believe in Better, a new U.S. brand campaign exploring what “better” means for each of us, and the role therapy can play in helping people get there.
Better can be a small shift or something that changes how we move through the world. It’s personal, but its impact can reach beyond us, shaping how we show up for ourselves and one another. At the heart of the campaign: “Better is personal. Therapy should be too.”
That idea extends to the experience of therapy itself—from finding the right therapist to choosing how to access care, whether through a BetterHelp subscription or insurance. It also means understanding the outcomes clients experience and supporting the therapists providing that care.
“For more than a decade, BetterHelp has worked to make it easier for more than 6 million people to access mental health support, while helping therapists reach clients and build practices,” said Fernando Madeira, President of BetterHelp. “We Believe in Better builds on that commitment by continuing to remove barriers to care while taking on more of the complexity behind the scenes for therapists.”
Alongside the campaign, BetterHelp is releasing its latest Clinical Outcomes & Quality Report and highlighting the tools and resources available to therapists on the platform.
“The insight that informed this campaign is that there’s no universal definition of better. People come to therapy with different experiences, goals and needs,” said Sara Brooks, Chief Growth Officer at BetterHelp. “We also wanted the campaign to reflect something we believe about BetterHelp itself: better isn’t a destination. It’s something we should always be working towards.”
We Believe in Better will roll out nationally with an anthem video and digital and social content exploring what “better” really means.
Better Outcomes
Believing in better also means being accountable for the outcomes and experiences of people using the platform. BetterHelp’s latest Clinical Outcomes & Quality Report, which analyzed data from U.S. clients, found:
- 78% of clients with elevated depression symptoms who met the analysis criteria showed symptom improvement within 12 weeks.1
- 75% of clients with elevated anxiety symptoms who met the analysis criteria showed symptom improvement within 12 weeks.2
- Clients rated their relationship with their therapist 4.8 out of 5, reflecting a strong therapeutic alliance.3
“We’re proud of what these results show about the care clients are receiving on BetterHelp,” said Russell DuBois, Ph.D., Vice President of Clinical Quality, Operations and Innovation at BetterHelp. “At our scale, we have a unique opportunity to measure real-world outcomes, learn from that data and use those insights to keep raising the bar on quality.”
Better Behind the Care
As BetterHelp expands access to therapy through insurance, therapists who accept insurance through the platform have access to tools and resources designed to support different aspects of their practice, including:
- Helping therapists build practices: BetterHelp helps therapists connect with clients using insurance while handling credentialing, health plan enrollment, claims and reimbursement on their behalf at no cost. As of July, BetterHelp has credentialed more than 8,000 therapists to accept insurance on the platform.
- Giving therapists more time for care: BetterHelp offers optional AI-powered documentation tools designed to support therapists in drafting and organizing treatment plans, progress notes and intake assessments. Therapists remain in control of clinical decisions and review and approve AI-generated content before it becomes part of a client record.
- Supporting independent practice: Therapists maintain their independence while having access to resources that support their practice, including clinical escalation pathways, documentation guidance, and clinical quality feedback, as well as 24/7 crisis support available to U.S. clients outside of session hours.
- Investing in information security: BetterHelp continues to invest in information security and recently achieved HITRUST r2 recertification following an independent assessment of its security controls and practices.
“Accepting insurance through BetterHelp has been a very positive experience for my practice,” said Nathaniel Reed, LCSW, LCSW-C, a therapist on BetterHelp since 2021. “The credentialing process was very simple, and the support removed typical administrative barriers, allowing my insurance-based caseload to grow rapidly. The AI-powered documentation tools have also saved me valuable time, cutting my charting time by approximately half.”
