San Antonio, TX, August 19, 2026 —

Alamo Heights Independent School District (AHISD) has introduced its first therapy dog, a golden retriever named Scout, to its student body. The canine companion was donated by the Kellyanne Elizabeth Lytal Memorial Foundation.

Scout’s arrival at the school is a tribute to the memory of 8-year-old Kellyanne Lytal, a student within AHISD who tragically passed away in the 2025 flood at Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas. The foundation established in her name made the donation to bring Scout to the district.

The therapy dog will be based at Alamo Heights Junior School. Scout’s primary role will be to support students who are dealing with anxiety or stress. He will be accompanied by his handler, Lisa Taggart, who also serves as a counselor for the school.

The presence of a therapy dog is intended to provide emotional support and a calming influence for students facing challenging emotional experiences. AHISD’s integration of Scout marks a new initiative to enhance student well-being through animal-assisted interventions.
